In the past year we’ve been tagged in on a few photos of International Forwarding vehicles that have been taken by local spotters and photographers. It got us wondering: who are these snappers and why they want to take photos of HGVs around the UK?
We caught up with two of them to find out more about their hobby. And to repost their great shots of IFL on the move.
M40 spot
Paul Evans is from South Warwickshire near Stratford Upon Avon. He has 21 thousand followers, and took this colourful photo of our Scania on M40 near Bishop’s Tachbrook last October.
How did you get into truck photography and why?
I started out doing aviation photography, which became time-consuming and expensive! Then a friend who owns a local haulage company asked me to photograph his trucks, which I was happy to do. He also asked for a photograph of one on the move, so I took myself to a local motorway bridge to capture the vehicle.
Having been a long-distance truck driver myself, I was lucky enough to drive all over the UK, and see what stunning liveried trucks were out there.
The hobby has grown very quickly. Over time I invested in better equipment to get the best images I could. I also started to show my work on social media. It’s generally received very well and if I manage to sell a few then that’s a bonus – it helps cover my fuel costs and keep my equipment up to date.

M6 spot
Kerry’s Photography has nearly six thousand followers on her Facebook page. Kerry has spotted IFL three times (so far) and tagged us. We particularly like this photo of our Volvo taken on the M6 in August 2021 (also in our featured image):
How did you get into truck photography and why?
Hello! I do this purely as a hobby to get out the house and spend some time with good friends. I love the excitement of seeing certain trucks coming along the road and I love it even more when the driver sees their picture on my page.
I started spotting years ago when my son was about five years old – he’s 23 now! – when we travelled from East Anglia to the Northeast to see family. It was a way of livening up the journey – just spotting the Eddie Stobarts coming towards us. I never want to be paid for my hobby. I just enjoy it!

M42 spot
We’ve also used some spotter photos on our site. Here’s one from James Emberton: one of our DAFs spotted on the M42 J5 in November 2021. We used it on our recent Why choose IFL? post.
