What is FORS?
The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme, or FORS, was originally set up by Transport for London in 2008. It was developed in conjunction with industry stakeholders, such as the Department for Transport, to improve safety and environmental standards – particularly of HGVs operating in the capital.
The programme soon went nationwide, however and FORS has been the UK’s leading fleet accreditation since 2008, with 4,700 companies accredited.
It is a voluntary accreditation programme, aimed at commercial fleet operators. The scheme assesses and recognises fleet performance in key areas such as environmental impact, safety and operational efficiency. It also provides a framework and sets benchmarks to help operators enhance their performance, with progressive levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) for further improvement and recognition.
The FORS award is given based on online application, provided evidence and an assessment by an independent FORS auditor. It is valid for 12 months to ensure standards remain current.
