And so it begins… our first batch of 100-plus Christmas trees is ready for distribution to various garden centres around the UK. One of the better side-effects of COVID-19 is that customers are starting their festive season early this year.
According to the British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCGTA), orders of UK trees are already significantly up on 2019. The BCGTA’s 320 growers sell around seven million UK Christmas trees each year, and many are selling online for the first time.
Cadeby Tree Trust in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, for example, is the largest grower in England, supplying farm shops and garden centres across the country. Sharon Scamell-Katz, Sales Manager, said: “After such an unprecedented year, Christmas is the one thing we can focus on and look forward to, and orders from our retailers are already 28% up compared to last year. There’s more of a drive to purchase UK-grown Christmas trees and any retailers with click-and-collect online, are putting in higher orders as consumer habits have changed because of Covid, with more and more buying online.”
It’s a hard job but, here at International Forwarding, we have been stepping up to the task of Christmas tree bulk storage and deliveries to UK post codes.
It has certainly brought some cheer to our warehouse staff and spruced up the place, fir sure. There may have been some rocking around the Christmas tree. We couldn’t possibly comment.
