We are fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust – please help by sponsoring Team IFL in the SECO Alcester 10k run.
The race takes place on 11 October and we are aiming to raise £1,000 as nine plucky IFL staff members get out from behind their desks and driving seats to take part in the 10km run.
International Forwarding’s Sales & Commercial Development Manager Andy Grubb, who set up an IFL JustGiving page, says: “During one of our recent sales team meetings we discussed various ideas for team bonding. One of the team suggested doing some kind of run. Everyone seemed in favour so we thought why not get the whole of the company involved and raise some money in the process.”
Team IFL is currently in training, with just a few more weeks to get in peak physical condition and hit the £1,000 fundraising target. None of the International Forwarding volunteers has done anything like this before, says Andy, so the training challenge is on but the runners are determined to do it for such a worthy cause. The rest of the Birmingham-based freight and logistics firm will be getting involved through donations or by cheering along on race day.
Why cystic fibrosis?
“We chose the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as our sponsored charity and have dedicated our JustGiving page to the memory of Andrew and Amy Wade,” says Andy.
“I grew up in Alcester and know the Wade family – Gill, Don, Amy and Andrew – who have been badly affected by CF. Gill and Don lost their son, Andrew, at just 18 years old; it’s the 10th anniversary of his death this month. More recently Amy succumbed to this dreadful disease at the age of just 32.
“Amy was a talented cross-country runner and was even chosen to run for the county – and all while having CF. A truly amazing feat, so we have no excuses!
“We are running to spread awareness of CF and to raise money towards further medical research. The response so far has been great and we are nearly a third of our way to the target but we need more help in getting there.”
