Brexit planning: HMRC updates trading guides for no-deal Brexit

Customs Clearance Dover

New guidance updates for exporters and importers covering customs procedures in the event of a no-deal Brexit were issued by HM Revenue & Customs this month (4 February). You can download them at the links below.

HMRC is introducing “simplified importing procedures” – known as Transitional Simplified Procedures (TSP) – for an initial period of one year to ease congestion at seaports if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

The changes mean that UK importers (who are eligible to register for TSP) will be able to defer customs declarations and payments for a short period. Ultimately, the responsibility for the fulfilling of customs declarations and clearances, and the correct payment of tax, duties and trade tariffs still lies with the trader, however.

In the event of a no-deal Brexit, International Forwarding Ltd will continue to offer a full export and import clearance service to help businesses trade with Europe. IFL is an experienced pan-European freight forwarder and customs agent offering a 24/7 customs clearance service through our Dover Port office.
